A technological error leaves IIT students strandedA technological error leaves IIT students stranded For the first time IITs have cancelled the allotment of courses to around 4000 students who came for the institutes second round of counselling. This, because of the wrong information given by the institute on the seats and courses available across IITs. We have comitted a mistake and we will rectify it. It will have a cascading effect on all students ranking above 1600, said Dipan Ghosh, Dy Director at IIT Mumbai. A glitch in the software resulted in students being handed out seats that were shown as unavailable. Those students who had forgone thier seats at the other institutes after they had been alloted courses of their choice at the IITs are now left with a worrisome prospect. I got B-Tech in IIT Madras and now I am worried what will happen, said Rohit. Now IITs have called students for counselling all over again. IITs say the whole correction procedure will delay the new session by at least two weeks. So technology fails even at the IITs. The institute admits that there has been a mistake and students will get affected but right now they are concerned about rectifying the mistake and starting the new session with minimum delays.
