Andhra gets green signal to set up IIT

The central government has sanctioned an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy announced in the state assembly on Tuesday.

Making a statement in the house, he said the union human resource development (HRD) ministry had given a green signal for the premier institute that would come up at Isnapur near Sanga Reddy in Medak district.

I am happy to inform this house that I have just received a communication from (HRD Minister) Arjun Singh informing that one IIT is sanctioned to Andhra Pradesh in response to our sustained request for locating an IIT in our state, he said.

Medical plan for IIT hostellers afoot INDIAN INSTITUTE of Technology (IIT-K) has proposed to introduce a novel plan to keep the students living in hostels fit by providing them medical assistance under an instant medical services plan. IIT-Kanpur students hail SC ruling on quotas Students of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur hailed the interim stay by the Supreme Court today on 27 per cent reservations to OBCs in elite Central educational institutions, including IITs and IIMs. Spokesman for the anti-quota Youth for Equality forum Chandarshekhar said the apex court order had saved the future of thousands of students and hoped it would continue to understand the feelings of the student community.
