Anti-Quota Stir In Kanpur Gains Momentum

The anti-reservation agitation by students of the Indian Institute of Technology here gathered momentum with industrial associations and traders deciding to go on a day’s token hunger strike on June 18 in support of students and teachers.

President of the Indian Industries Association (IIA) Tarun Chetrapat said today that the IIA members along with various trading and social organisations would sit on a day-long hunger strike at Phoolbagh ground on June 18 in support of IIT-K students.

The spokesman of the Forum Against Indian Reservation claimed that the relay fast at IIT campus continued while the students of GSVM Medical College held demonstration and dharna on the second day at Lala Lajpatrai Hospital premises.

The agitating students held meetings with biscuit manufacturers and various trade and industries’ associations last night seeking their support.

Meanwhile, students and junior doctors of local Ganesh Shanker Vidyarathy Medical College who had withdrawn their agitation earlier also joined in the strike yesterday.

Man Injured In Fire Linked To Welding Accident

A three alarm fire sent a homeowner to the hospital with second and third degree burns Tuesday. The fire ruined a barn and several tractors in a Washington County neighborhood. Firefighters say controlling the flames was difficult and they called for back-up from at least four area departments. Fort Calhoun Fire Chief Brent Grove says, "IIt was difficult due to its remote location and no nearby fire hydrant. The nearest hydrant was half-a-mile away." Medical plan for IIT hostellers afoot INDIAN INSTITUTE of Technology (IIT-K) has proposed to introduce a novel plan to keep the students living in hostels fit by providing them medical assistance under an instant medical services plan.
