CBSE toppers poised to fly

City students came out with flying colours in CBSE Class XII, with those from the commerce stream giving their science counterparts a run for their money.

But for most of the citys toppers, its time to end academic ties with Kolkata. Armed with high grades, they are ready to seek admission to the best institutes that are invariably outside the city.

Commerce student Harsh Drolia of Birla High School, the probable city topper who scored 96.2%, has no intention of studying in Kolkata. Science topper Kushal Agarwal from Lakshmipat Singhania Academy is eyeing an IIT berth while humanities topper M Saraswati of Apeejay School is bent on joining St Stephens

IIT Kanpur mourns Loganathan's death The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of Kanpur is mourning the death of distinguished achiever and alumni G.V. Loganathan, the professor who died in a US university shootout along with 32 others. Its a new cliché for a new age: Behind every successful information technology (IT) firm are a bunch of talented women. Women now comprise 25 per cent of the 2 lakh-strong employee strength of Indian IT majors like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, Infosys and Satyam. Most of these companies have seen a huge jump in the number of female employees in the past two years.
