Cricket bat the most sought after symbol of independents

Aiming to cash in on the cricket world cup fever, independent candidates contesting the UP Assembly Elections were vying with each other to get the cricket bat as their symbol.

When election symbols were allotted to the candidates at the district election office on Friday, a large number of independents sought the cricket bat symbol, even though a long list of symbols including hand pump, scissors, candles, gas cylinder, television, rail engine, aeroplane were offered to them.

The gas cylinder closely followed the bat, as the preferred choice of the candidates.

The Indian Institute of Technology here has signed an agreement with IBM Corp. for collaborative research, officials said on Friday.
