E-age MusketeersE-age Musketeers There are no wars anywhere, but battles everywhere. And what you need is just comrades in arms. You need partners who will stand beside you shoulder-to-shoulder, share the same vision and fight a good battle and, maybe, stay with you throughout. The romantics may miss the clang, clamour and adrenaline rush of a real war. There are enough battles to be fought in the corporate world, if you have the guts to pick them up. Especially for an entrepreneur and those willing to give up cushy well-paying jobs to strike out on their own. Like Porthos, Athos, and Aramis, the three musketeers in Alexandre Dumas classic novel, R Srinavasu, Ajay Kaushal and Karthik Ganapathy have picked their battle nuances well. Their education, for sure, was of great help — all three are IIT and IIM products. Their common meeting ground was Anderson Consulting, where the three met and realised that there was more to life than just offering consulting solutions. In a sense, the consultants decided to follow their instinct and were out to exploit an emerging business opportunity —in the late 90s, they realised that banks would invest heavily in infrastructure and technology upgradation. We saw a number of banks drawing up grand plans to invest in technology infrastructure. Then we realised that for banks to get returns on this investment, they will need to launch new services from which new business models will evolve, Mr Srinivasu, called Vasu, says. When the three musketeers decided to start out, it was the heady days of the dot com boom — circa 1999. Money was flowing in from all quarters and sections for anyone who had an idea to build upon. Which is why, maybe, they named their company IndiaIdeas.com. Though the idea was not to become dot com chasing eyeballs or advertising revenues, the objective was to ride the infrastructure being created by the banks. We could see a huge opportunity in creating a consumer-led model that would leverage the network, Mr Vasu says. The company was started with the objective of creating an electronic payment gateway and decided to focus on banks as a customer. The three founders decided to raise money not from traditional VCs but from SIDBI so that it could be seen as trusted partners by banks. Source : http://infotech.indiatimes.com/
