Exploiting Hydel Power In NV

The state government has decided to exploit total hydle power potential available in Narmada valley. For this Narmada Valley Development Authority is going to conduct a high level technical study in Narmada basin. The study would be arranged by IIT Roorkee. The Vice Chairman of NVDA Uday Kumar Verma informed that beside major hydle power projects being constructed in the Valley there is large quantum of unexplored hydle power potential in Narmada basin. Looking at the present and future power demand of the state there is great need to exploit even smallest hydle power potential. Keeping in view NVDA has approached the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee to conduct the survey and study to find out the unexplored potential. Verma informed that Alternate Hydro Energy Center (AHEC) of IIT Rurkee has well equipped facilities specially created to cater the needs for study small hydro power projects. AHEC shall conduct the study and prepare composite master plan, for execution. Uday Verma said that besides major hydle power projects in Narmada Valley like Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar and Sardar Sarovar, the NVDA has already explored as much as nine mini hydle power possibilities in upper Narmada zone. These are, Raghavpur 20 MW Rosra 35 MW Basania 60MW Chinki 50 MW Sitareva 15 MW, Handia 51 MW Boras 55 MW Hoshangabad 60 MW and Gopalpur 25 MW These mini hydle power projects would create a total potential of 370MW.

The Member power of NVDA IC Jain informed that the IIT Rurkee had been approached for this ambitious study in MP. The IIT has consented the proposal with an estimated expenditure of about Rs 48 lakh over the study and preparation of composite master plan.

Aiming at checking corruption and speed up the process of issuing passports for students of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, district police have asked the institute director to appoint a nodal officer to oversee the procedure.
