Flextronics chief Arun Kumar passes away

Arun Kumar, President and Managing Director, Flextronics Software Systems (FSS) passed away yesterday night at San Diego in the US.

According to the information available, Kumar went to the hospital in the US for the regular health check-up. He was advised to go for a surgery immediately because of Arrhythmia. (irregular heartbeats or change in the rhythm of heartbeat) It is reported that he died in the hospital.
Kumar had a significant track record in the global IT and Telecommunications industry. Arun Kumar was credited with many of the successes in expanding FSS business to newer markets and leading it into the products business.

In May 2000, Kumar was awarded the coveted Hughes Chairmans Honor Award of Excellence. In September 2000, Kumar joined a select band of professionals to be nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year

Prior to coming to India in 1995, Kumar was the head of Hughes Network Systems West Coast software operations, based in San Diego, California. His contribution in the area of strategic planning, product definition and marketing focus helped HNS enter emerging technology areas such as cellular telephony and integrated satellite business networking on very small aperture terminal (VSAT) systems. Before this, in his engineering role, he had pioneering work in the design and development of VSAT technology and developing a digital standard for Hughes entry into the cellular business.

Kumar had served as the Chairman of the Executive Council of NASSCOM (National Association of Software & Service Companies) and had been the Chairman of the American Business Council in the Telecommunications Group. Kumar was also an active Member of the Governing Council of the University of Delhis Institute of Informatics and Communication.

Kumar had a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur and a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Missouri, US.
