Guinness Supports Technology Institute

Determined to help develop local capacity for industrial development, Guinness Nigeria Plc, has resented a grant of N5 million to the Institute for Industrial Technology (IIT), Kosofe, Lagos The presentation followed a similar one, made two weeks earlier, to the Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria.

The companys Supply Director, Mr. Doug Nicholls said, at the presentation that the donation was made to fulfil the vital role which education, especially technical knowledge, plays in the socio-economic development of the nation and its corporate social responsibility efforts. Apart from empowering the youths in whose hands the future rests, the gesture is also aimed at deepening the Nigerian economy through technical knowledge which is in conformity with the companys policy of active and constructive engagement with the society at large and its host community in particular, he said.

He explained that the money will be used to provide facilities to ensure that the students have adequate equipment for training and that they study in a very conducive environment.

ICICI Bank is eyeing the rural market in view of the huge demand for credit from this untapped area. The demand for credit in the rural markets was Rs.1,500 billion, while the supply was only Rs.40 billion, said Nachiket Mor, the banks deputy managing director, on the sidelines of a banking conclave here Wednesday.
