THE INDIAN Institute of Technology (IIT-K) has been asked to develop a system to ensure safety of the oil and water pipelines during earthquake. The project has been given to the civil engineering department of the institute. Chips Up As Bengal Govt Logs In To Research Work

The West Bengal Government plans to develop an electronic design incubation centre on 20 acres of land near Kolkata, in association with the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur. This is the first such venture by any State in the country. Low-cost ATM machines developed by the Telecommunications Network (TeNet) Group of IIT, Chennai are being tested in the metropolis at two places. Decrease in number of students applying for IIT The number of students aspiring for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has decreased this year. Last year around 3 lakh students took the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and this year there are around 2.5 lakh students who will be appearing for the JEE.
