Hillary Clinton at IIT alumni annual conference along with some other

The annual conference of the alumni of the Indian Institutes of Technology will have a trio of heavyweight keynote speakers, organizers announced at a kick-off event in Santa Clara, Calif., Feb. 25.

Presidential candidate Senator Hillary Clinton, General Electric chairman and chief executive Jeff Immelt and Vodafone chief executive officer Arun Sarin will headline the 2007 IIT Global Alumni conference, to be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center July 6-8.

IIT Powai goes to Gujarat, 300 acres campus Last week, the IIT-Powai board sent its proposal to the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development for the final nod to the new campus to be located in 300 acres area in Ganghinagar, Gujarat to be named IIT-G. This would not be an extension of IIT Powai but a full fledged campus some three kms from the state capital. The Gujarat campus would have 4,000 - 4,500 students, almost the same as Powai. We are just waiting for a nod from the Centre, and construction would be up and going in next six months.

IIT Kanpur gets funds from alumni The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) here has received financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh in USD from its 1972 batch graduates in order to create two chairs. This was the largest donation by the former students to IIT Kanpur. Former student Udai Pratap Singh said the batch would provide financial assistance for scholarship to needy students. He said the 1972 batch had been considering to provide Rs 5 lakh to the institute. Two students, Kamal Aggarwal and Rakesh Gandhi, had promised $ 1 lakh each for establishing the faculty chairs, the biggest ever donation to create chairs.

Canadian firm offers bus rapid transit system After the much touted Light Rail Transit, its the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) that is doing the rounds in the corridors of power. McCormick Rankin International (MRI) — a Canadian firm and an international player in the transport sector — has sought the governments permission to conduct a preliminary study for introducing BRTS in the city. The state will not have to spend anything on the project.
