IBM & IIT, Bombay Partner To Develop Technical Talent

IBM and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay a premier institute for research and higher education in various technical and engineering areas, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop technology capabilities of common interest through collaborative research.

IBM and IIT Bombay will jointly develop technologies and capabilities in areas like Autonomic Computing, Grid Computing, Deep Computing, Databases, Web services, Network Management and Security amongst others. Under the umbrella of IBM’s Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) program, the objective of this MOU is to equip technical talent at the grassroot levels with greater understanding of emerging technologies.

Speaking about the MOU, Harish Grama, Vice President, IBM India Software Labs said “The IBM Centre for Advanced Studies program plays a significant role in bringing together academia, government, and industry research organizations. Our MOU with IIT Bombay is step in this direction.”

He further added, “In an evolving world, students need to continuously develop their skills to work on new and innovative technologies. Through this MOU, IBM will enable students to be a part of the technology ready workforce".

Highlights of the MOU

ü Sponsorship of Ph.D/ M Tech/MS(Res) students for their research work on the chosen themes of mutual collaborative interest

ü Technology support that would enable students in their research project

ü Collaboration on research program with chosen faculty

Prof Ashok Misra, Director, IIT Bombay, said, “We are very glad that IBM, under the Centre for Advanced Studies programme, is signing an MOU with IIT Bombay to develop technologies and capabilities of common interest and engage in collaborative research initially in the areas of computer science and information technology. This MOU will enable a long term partnership between IBM, an industry leader and IIT Bombay an academic institute of excellence. We look forward to coming closer through new initiatives of supporting students and recognizing our faculty capabilities.”

Endorsing his view Prof Rangan Banerjee, Associate Dean (Research & Development), IIT Bombay, said, “Research is the backbone to develop technologies for the future. Corporate participation from IBM will provide us with a platform to, train and encourage research students and develop them into technically talented resources for the future.”

CIC asks IIT to disclose cut-off

The Central Information Commission has directed IIT Kharagpur, which conducts the joint entrance exam for the engineering courses, to furnish all the details regarding cut-off marks and the procedure to reach to the cut-offs, the model answer sheet and so on by May 15 to a candidate, Eklavyas parents. The Information Commissioner has mentioned in the direction the judgement of the Delhi High Court, which upheld the judgement of the CIC in the UPSC exams case.
