• Cooperative Education and Internship Programs Streamline Renewal Process

The Career Management Center (CMC) is pleased to announce that continuing participants in the Cooperative Education Program can now renew their co-op online. Students at the main campus and the Stuart School of Business will find the form at the CMC website, http://www.cmc.iit.edu/home.html.

The new online form eliminates the need for students to make an appointment with the CMC to renew co-op paperwork each semester and makes it easier for those who are continuing out-of-state employment to register for the program. To register online, co-op students will still need to submit their completed and signed Work Term Evaluation to the attention of their CMC Co-op Advisor, preferably in person or by mail, at: Paul Galvin Library—Upper Level (CMC), 35 W. 33rd Street, Chicago, IL 60616.

Kennedy appointed Vice President for Community Affairs and Outreach Programs

Leroy E. Kennedy was recently appointed Vice President for Community Affairs and Outreach Programs for IIT by President Lewis Collens.

His leadership and respect in the community have been integral to the evolution of IITs relationship with community organizations, local elected officials and the City of Chicagos educational, planning and human service agencies, Collens said in the announcement.

Over 300 Indian Students To Receive EU Scholarships

Over 300 students from India have been selected by the European Union for scholarships to pursue Masters courses in Europe for the year 2006-07 as part of its Erasmus Mundus programme. The list of 319 Indian students was announced Friday. Launched in 2004, Erasmus Mundus is an EU initiative dedicated to students from third countries who come to study in the EU to pursue Masters courses at various European universities over two years. The West Bengal Government plans to develop an electronic design incubation centre on 20 acres of land near Kolkata, in association with the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur. This is the first such venture by any State in the country. Select global bidding to close mining in Karnataka: SC The Supreme Court has directed the government to select an agency through global bidding process to draw up and implement a detailed plan for the closure of mining activities in Kudremukh forest area of Karnataka. 43 Percent of IIT-JEE Qualifiers Are First Timers

The reformed joint entrance examination (JEE) system of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has proven beneficial for the first timers, as more than 43 percent of the candidates could clear the exam in first attempt. According to a statement of the ministry of human resource development (HRD) released Thursday, as many as 2,99,288 candidates registered for JEE-2006 as against 1,98,059 last year - an increase of about 51 percent. New Format For IIT-JEE Has Borne Fruit: Ministry

The new format of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) to the Indian Institutes of Technology has borne fruit, according to the Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry as the number of candidates who cleared this entrance test in the first attempt has gone up from 28.49 per cent in 2005 to 43.50 per cent.
