IIT-K alumni hope UP will be better

IIT-K alumni hope UP will be better

Talking about Uttar Pradesh, and especially about Kanpur, makes J N Gupta, Financial Controller at Ocean Oil (UK) Limited in London very sad. Reason: The poor pace of development here and his attachment to the city where he was born and brought up.

In an e-mail to The Indian Express, IIT-Kanpur alumnus Gupta expressed his concern. He said if not the best but Uttar Pradesh was definitely among the top five states of the country in the seventees. After that, UP has seen a unidirectional graph in all respects except crime, which has risen and all positive factors have just gone awry, he said. He added that as far as industrialisation was concerned, Kanpur was much ahead of Ludhiana, Gurgaon, Faridabad and others.

He is surprised how politicians have become insulated from reality and how money and friendship has become key words. It is surprising to see people like Amitabh Bachchan calling Uttar Pradesh Uttam Pradesh, he said.

Bags or Bugs?

For as long as we remember, edible items like coarse food grains (wheat, rice, cereals, etc) and sugars are packaged and distributed in jute bags. The truth is poles apart from this myth. The processing of jute involves a softening process where in raw jute (an agri-produce) after retting is softened by adding (5-6%) of jute batching oil, an emulsifying agent and water. This stage of operation is called batching.
