IIT-Kanpur students protest move to sack Venugopal

Students of the Indian Institute of Technology and the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College here today staged a protest against the move to sack All India Institute of Medical Sciences Director P Venugopal.

The students took out a procession from the medical college to Motijheel area, shouting slogans against Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss.

Students of IIT-Kanpur, who are already agitating on the Centre’s reservation policy, joined the medicos. The processionists carried posters that said an honest person was being made a scapegoat.

The medical students threatened to intensify their protest after consulting students of other medical colleges in the state.

A Third Year Civil Engineering student of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) committed suicide by jumping before a running train at a railway crossing near the IIT-K campus in Kalyanpur late Wednesday night. The Government Railway Police has sent the body of J Bharadwaja, who was from Hyderabad, for post-mortem.
