IIT Kharagpur in mid 2006 announced the Nina Saxena Excellence in Technology Award

In a bid to encourage and promote technical innovation, IIT Kharagpur in mid 2006 announced the Nina Saxena Excellence in Technology Award. The award commemorates the spirit and memory of its illustrious alumna Dr. Nina Saxena, B.Tech (Hons.), ECE 1992, who passed away tragically in 2005. Open to all Technologists who are Indian citizens (resident or non-resident), the award was announced at the IIT Foundation Day on August 18th, 2006.

Nominations for entries to the award are now open and will remain open till April 30th 2007. The nomination form is available and can be accessed through the official award website

IIT-JEE to have only two papers The Indian Institutes of Technology - Joint Entrance Examination (IIT - JEE) is scheduled all over India on April 8, 2007. IEM Organises Robotics Festival Saturday, March 24, 2007: Kolkata: Recently, the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Kolkata, organised a two-day National Level Technical (Robotics) Festival in association with Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc. Several colleges, which include IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Bombay, Jadavpur University, BESU, Shibpur, as well as colleges from Indore, Orissa, Mumbai and Sikkim-Manipal, had registered for this event. The festival offered a wide range of events showcasing the students technical skills, creativity and their intelligence quotient. IT-JEE test pattern to follow changes

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the seven NTs has been simplified by including only two papers instead of three. The new pattern will be adopted from the forth-coming JEE test which is scheduled to be held on April 8, 2007. The two papers will include questions from all the three disciplines (Physics, Chemistry and Maths) each for three hours. IBM, IIT Join Hands

IBM and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop technology capabilities of common interest through collaborative research. IBM and IIT Mumbai will jointly develop technologies and capabilities in areas like autonomic computing, grid computing, deep computing, databases, web services, network management, and security amongst others. NTPC lamps to light up rural India NTPC Ltd plans to manufacture light emitting diode (LED) lamps through a joint venture. The move was prompted by the need to reduce demands on rural electricity and the power ministrys belief that LED lamps should be promoted in rural areas as they are energy efficient. The proposed venture would have a debt equity ratio of 30:70 and NTPC would have the majority stake in the proposed venture, an NTPC official told Business Standard. TeNet develops low-cost ATMs for rural India

Low-cost ATM machines developed by the Telecommunications Network (TeNet) Group of IIT, Chennai are being tested in the metropolis at two places. The kiosk–ATM, named Grammteller, which was developed over a period of 18 months, by IIT's Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments, in association with Vortex India, is under pilot trial by ICICI bank. Students from IIT Roorkee and IIM Ahmedabad have attempted to fuse corporate and cricket worlds by launching www.cricstock.com – Cricket Stock Exchange – on this virtual stock exchange, shares of international cricketers can be bought and traded by cricket fans, and the stock prices of cricketers will reflect their recent performance and what fans feel about them.
