IIT Roorkee and IIM Ahmedabad grads launches Cricket Stock Exchange

Students from IIT Roorkee and IIM Ahmedabad have attempted to fuse corporate and cricket worlds by launching www.cricstock.com – Cricket Stock Exchange – on this virtual stock exchange, shares of international cricketers can be bought and traded by cricket fans, and the stock prices of cricketers will reflect their recent performance and what fans feel about them.

“The idea is to capture the mood and sentiments of cricket fans and translate them into numbers which will be reflected by stock-prices” informed Rahul Roushan, final year student of postgraduate programme of IIMA and one of the developers of the website. Currently the website has issued IPO (Initial Public Offering) of all the international cricketers of test-playing countries. A person gets one million of virtual cash as soon as he registers with the website and he can use that money to buy shares of any number of these cricketers. He has to bid within a specified price range for buying the shares of different cricketers.

More about functioning of the website can be known from http://www.cricstock.com/faq.htm

“Currently it’s just 20 per cent of the website that is up with the IPO. Shares would be allocated to bidders immediately after the opening ceremony of the World Cup. The rest of the site will also be launched then, which will include trading features, discussion forums, news, profiles of cricketers etc.” said Karthik Laxman, another student of IIMA who is associated with the website. The website has attracted hundreds of registered users within a couple of days of launching.

Indian American claims solving Einstein twin paradox

Indian American claims solving Einstein twin paradox An Indian American professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Louisiana State University has claimed to have solved Einsteins twin paradox, known as one of the most enduring puzzles of modern-day Physics. First suggested by Albert Einstein more than 100 years ago, the paradox deals with the effects of time in the context of travel at near the speed of light. Einstein originally used the example of two clocks - one motionless, one in transit. The paradox has been described using the analogy of twins: if one twin is placed on a spacecraft travelling

Energy Concerns Boost Innovations

Long before gas prices hit $3 and Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" was released, Chicago-area entrepreneurs with an environmental bent were inventing products designed to conserve petroleum and other natural resources. But until recently, finding a market for their green innovations was an uphill battle. "At IIT, we've been worried about energy and the environment for 30 years, and people laughed at us," said Robert Anderson, president of All Cell Technologies, a 5-year-old company founded by Illinois Institute of Technology professors Said Al-Hallaj and J. Robert Selman, whose thermal management technology is being used to develop rechargeable lithium batteries for use in

Al Gores Propaganda Meltdown

AFRIEND invited me to a screening of "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's film about global warming, when it arrived in Chicago recently. It was sponsored by an environmental group and the theater was filled with Gore fans. They seemed to love it. I found it frightening. In the style of a previous generation of propaganda films, Gore substitutes vivid images of the alleged effects of global warming for an accurate account of the scientific debate. We see glaciers calving into the sea, giant storms sweeping through resort areas, burning deserts, even a cartoon polar bear swimming aimlessly, searching for a place
