INDIA: Workshop On Knitted Fabric Technology Organised

A two day workshop on ‘Knitted Fabric Technology’ in Ludhiana has been organised by the city based GIANI Zail Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Dr Gursharan Singh, Head of Textile Engineering Department said here on June 29.

The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and the chief guest was Vishwa Bandhu, General Manager, Industries, Punjab.

The inaugural session was addressed by Prof D.V. Singh, Director, IIT Roorkee; Prof V.K. Kothari, Head of Textile Technology Department, IIT Delhi; Dr Harpal Singh, principal, GZS College of Engineering and Technology, Bathinda.

Further speakers emphasised on the need for research and development in the knitwear sector, which comprises mostly small and medium entrepreneurs.

The objective of the workshop was narrated by Dr Gursharan Singh, Head of Textile Engineering Department.

OpenDocument made additional strides in establishing itself this week, as the Belgian government certified the OASIS format as the only acceptable standard for internal documents. In addition, OpenDocument backers are promoting the format in India at the IIT Delhi conference. ICICI Bank To Increase Rural Lending

The Countrys largest private sector bank ICICI Bank is eyeing rural India for increasing exposure in view of the huge demand for credit stemming from these parts. The demand for credit in the rural markets was Rs 1.5 lakh crore, while the supply was only Rs 4,000 crore, ICICI Bank Deputy Managing Director Nachiket Mor told reporters on the sidelines of Banking Conclave here on Wednesday. A former employee of global information services company Williams Lea has been awarded £31,000 for unfair dismissal at a Stratford Employment Tribunal after she supported colleagues in a previous tribunal to do with mishandled redundancies.
