Robotics, dinosaur, virtual art at IIT techfest

Fun, robotics, videoconference talks from some of the planets big names in science and tech and a drastic re-look at alternatives to the copyright model are on the menu for this years Techfest2007, the student festival of one of Indias premier technology training centres, IIT-Bombay.

There will be something like 20,000 people taking part here, said Assistant Professor Shishir K. Jha of the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management.

Draped in a sea of banners that indicate the support from affluent industrial and other sponsors to this event in the prestigious technology training-grounds, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay was busy with students and others thronging the three-day event that begins on Republic Day and goes on till Jan 28.

IIT-Kanpur Students To Go On 12-Hour Mass Fast Tomorrow

Students of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur have decided on a 12-hour "mass fast" here tomorrow against the proposed OBC quotas in institutions of higher learning even as their relay hunger strike entered the 21st day today. IIMA, first B school in India to set up International Advisory Council

The Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has decided to set up an International Advisory Council for the institute like leading universities and business schools abroad. IIMA is the first B-School in India to have an International Advisory Council. While such bodies do not have any decision-making powers, they function as purely advisory bodies. It will have leaders from the fields of education, business, management and academia with wide international experience and perspective. Agriculture engineering in proposed IIT sought

Agriculture engineering in proposed IIT sought Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has asked the Union Human Resource Development Ministry to include agriculture engineering as one of the core branches of the proposed IIT. The new discipline can encompass aspects like soil and water engineering, water resources development and management, farm mechanisation and power, post harvest technology, dairy and food processing engineering, aquaculture engineering and agricultural systems management. To review the progress of various employment generation programmes launched in the state, a meeting of the Apex Level Committee was held here yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary C Phunsog. It was revealed in the meeting that during the current financial year an amount of Rs. 1555.4 lacs have been allocated for implementation of the Jammu and Kashmir State Self Employment Scheme. IIT Kanpur mourns Loganathan's death The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of Kanpur is mourning the death of distinguished achiever and alumni G.V. Loganathan, the professor who died in a US university shootout along with 32 others. IIT K to develop Safety systems for puplines against Earthquake

THE INDIAN Institute of Technology (IIT-K) has been asked to develop a system to ensure safety of the oil and water pipelines during earthquake. The project has been given to the civil engineering department of the institute. IIT Relents To Move Campus Wall

The World Bank funded JVLR (Jogeshwari-Vikroli Link Road) project which was facing a snag as IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) was refusing to move its Powai campus wall 7 metres back to enable the road widening work, has finally relented and given a green signal.
