Tech’s not too hot at IIT hire station

The booming Indian economy brings in good news for IIT graduates across the country. The elite engineering institutes are kickstarting their placement procedures from the first week of December.

This year, salaries are expected to go up by 15-20%. Every year, nearly 1,000 engineering students graduate from the seven IITs and are eligible to apply for their final recruitments. Nearly 240-300 companies recruit students across each IIT campus.

This year, hot favourites among students are companies in the financial, analytics and banking sector, as well as companies in their core branches. Taking a beating in the popularity charts are IT companies that offer programming profiles.

Over 300 Indian Students To Receive EU Scholarships

Over 300 students from India have been selected by the European Union for scholarships to pursue Masters courses in Europe for the year 2006-07 as part of its Erasmus Mundus programme. The list of 319 Indian students was announced Friday. Launched in 2004, Erasmus Mundus is an EU initiative dedicated to students from third countries who come to study in the EU to pursue Masters courses at various European universities over two years.
