US Fortune smiles on 6 Indian-origin CEOs

Cola queen Indra Nooyi is not the only person of Indian origin heading a behemoth like PepsiCo in the US; she is in company with five others at the top of the latest Fortune league of American corporate giants.

Besides Nooyi, persons of Indian origin are running another five companies figured in the Fortune list of the biggest firms in the US, published in the latest issue of US-based business magazine.

While PepsiCo tops the list of the Indian-run firms in the US at 63rd rank, it also features Hartford Financial Services, Rohm & Haas, Sigma-Aldrich, Tellabs and LSI Corporation, all of which have an India-born as the CEO.

Iligan City Collects P80 Million Taxes

The City Treasurer' Office reported that it collected P80 million in revenues last year, the bulk of it paid by its 56 major tax payers. The city’s major taxpayers are mostly industrial and commercial companies and establishments, City Treasurer Ernesto Balat told MindaNews. IIT-Powaii student commits suicide A fourth year BTech student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Powaii on Saturday committed suicide inside his hostel room, police said. Shrikant Mullappa (22), an electrical branch student committed suicide in the IIT campus before noon and this was discovered late on Saturday evening, Assistant Commissioner of Police (western region) region Bipin Bihari said. ICICI Bank To Increase Rural Lending

The Countrys largest private sector bank ICICI Bank is eyeing rural India for increasing exposure in view of the huge demand for credit stemming from these parts. The demand for credit in the rural markets was Rs 1.5 lakh crore, while the supply was only Rs 4,000 crore, ICICI Bank Deputy Managing Director Nachiket Mor told reporters on the sidelines of Banking Conclave here on Wednesday.
