Vehicular movement hit over protests on proposed IIT in AP

Vehicular traffic was badly hit on two major highways in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday as political parties blockaded roads over the proposed location of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the state.

While Opposition party activists blocked the Hyderabad-Nagpur road (National Highway 7) to demand setting up of the IIT in the temple town of Basara in Adilabad district as originally proposed, the ruling Congress stopped traffic on the Hyderabad-Mumbai road (National Highway 9) in support of the decision to locate it in Medak district.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded at various places, including on the outskirts of Hyderabad and in Nizamabad and Adilabad districts, as activists of the Opposition Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and other parties blocked the Hyderabad-Nagpur road.

Making their presence felt Flaunting foreign degrees is a favourite Indian pastime. But the situation may be reversed soon with some of the best brains in the Middle East and in the Far East getting a chance to show off degrees they will receive from top Indian institutes --sitting in their own countries. IIT Students Polarised On Quota Issue

Students at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, continue to be polarised on the reservation issue even as the anti-reservation agitation refuses to die down. About 70 students, both from graduate and postgraduate disciplines, have been taking turns at the relay hunger strike since May 22 with support from Youth for Equality (YFE). Around them, posters proclaim their demands — a roll back of the proposed 27 per cent quota for other backward classes (OBCs), and a non-political commission to review the existing reservation policy.
